Inspired Fridays #10: Wooden Book Rack

WOODEN BOOK RACK

This week I am inspired by these awesome wooden book racks, created by Agusta and Gustav from Old and Cold. If you ever lived in a tiny apartment with little to no space at all, you might see why I’m so into this new shelf system. Look how elegant it is! You can use the walls to shelf your books and don’t put much height in them, which would happen if you were using a common wooden board. It’s fantastic and super clever. And great home decor as well. Imagine your books all pretty displayed like this. I love how this looks! I’ll definitely start saving some money to get at least one wooden book rack. What about you? Let me know what inspired you during this week!

Inspired Fridays #9: DIY Book Jackets

DIY BOOK JACKETS

This week I am inspired by book jackets. While surfing the web I came across these lovely personal libraries featuring awesome and unique stacks/piles of books with illustrated book jackets. The final look is fantastic! The downside is that you might have a little trouble finding you books in the shelve. Still, it’s a wonderful decor idea, using those books we know that we’ll never read again. Also, it’s cute and a clever way to protect your books from eventual damage. Plus, it can be handmade! You can create your own design to decorate an entire shelf. I think I might try it when I have some decent shelves, instead of books piled all over the flat. Check out more cool book jacket designs here and here. What about you? Let me know what inspired you during this week!

Inspired Fridays #8: Activity Book Bag

DIY ACTIVITY BOOK BAG

First of all, I need to tell that no, I don’t have kids. Secondly, I’m the oldest daughter of a big family, so I ended up taking care of the little ones while I was growing up, specially during my teen years. An activity book bag like this one would be a gift sent from heaven at the time, when we didn’t have all the hardware entertainment we have for kids these days. Plus, it looks so cute!! It’s a great DIY idea to upcycle old hardcovers.

I also must tell you that I LOVE to draw/paint, so when I saw this little book/bag I thought it might look good if I rearrange it to fit my drawing notebook and my pencils and brushes. If I manage to come around my inability to butcher books with a scissors and do this sort of thing myself, I’ll post some pictures of the final result. 🙂

You can find a complete tutorial with photos for this activity book at Cosmo Cricket.

LIGHTED GLASS HOUSES

This week I am inspired by this incredibly cute little glass houses. They can be used for decor or as mini lamps. Aren’t they the cutest thing ever and at the same time extremely elegant? They transpire design and sophistication as well as cuteness. I really love them and, since I can’t make them myself, I am adding them to my wishlist. 🙂 These miniature houses are the creation of Dan and Mer Dundin.

Inspired Fridays #6: Bread Box Charging Station

BREAD BOX CHARGING STATION

I don’t know about you, but I have a major problem with chargers. I don’t know how I do it, but I always manage to lose them, break them, and even twist the cables in such a way that the task of untwisting them can drive just about anyone completely insane. You can imagine how I felt when I saw this little charging station that could spare me so much trouble. *(and now I’ll break my rule and bring my tumbler self to this reading corner, because sometimes you can only accurately express emotion with gifs)*

Praise to the people who invented this! I’m definitely going to try to make one, or get one if I can’t find a way to handmade it myself. Instructions for this DIY project can be found here. (via Apartment Therapy)

FLORAL CROWNS

This week I am inspired by floral crowns (or hair garlands). Everywhere I look I see this beautiful, romantic accessory and I just love it. LOVE IT! It reminds me of princesses and fairies, of romance in the Spring. Now, to be honest, you got to have a lot of confidence to wear one of these outside, specially when you’re not a bride or a bridesmaid in a wedding.

However, I have seen several girls wearing floral crowns in the street to complete they’re summer outfits, enjoying the sun and the light breeze, and it looks really nice! I’m thinking on crafting one for me while we still have the chance to enjoy a few more sunny days. If you also love this hair accessory, you should try and craft one yourself! Here is a quick & easy how-to tutorial.

WOODEN LETTERS

Aren’t these Wooden Letters Decor amazing? They would look amazing in a city apartment mixed with some upcycled furniture. Plus, they can be used as bookshelves! I would like to have a set of these letters saying ‘book lover’. I would place them in the floor of the entrance or living room/kitchen wall. What about you? Found via WE Archdesign.

PAPER ART

This week I was inspired by Mandy Smith paper art and I couldn’t resist sharing my new discovery with you. Just take a look at the photos below. Is that amazing or what? It’s all paper! Look carefully to all the tiny little details. I have worked with paper before and it is really hard to create this amount of detail and perfection. Well done Ms. Smith! More pics and videos here.

BOOK PLANTERS

I’m not much of a gardener, but I love flowers and the idea that when I have a little place of my own (and a little more time), I will dedicate some time to gardening activities. I have always wanted to try this one. It’s a good way to upcycle old books that had been ruined by water damage. We can turn them into planters! Found via The Violet Hours.

Inspired Fridays #1: Bookmark Lamp

banner_inspiringfridays

You probably don’t know this, but I am as passionate about arts & crafts, as I am about books & reading. Inkk Reviews is hosting a weekly meme that combines the love of crafting with the love of books and I decided to take part in it. You can read more about it here.

You don’t have to actually craft anything “be inspired”. Just show something you maybe have done, want to try, or even a cool looking book nook or library. Whatever inspires you!

BOOKMARK LAMP

How awesome is this!? I would love to have one of these in my living room, near my sofa. Clean, minimalistic, sort of retro design. Probably wouldn’t work so well, because I always carry two books everywhere I go… but still!! Perfect light with a little hanger that works as bookmark while you stop for a while to answer the door, or whatever interrupts your reading. Don’t think I could handmade this one, though…
